SomatoEmotional Release is a body-oriented method developed by Dr. John Upledger — designed to reach what conversation and analysis alone cannot.

What is somatoemotional Release?

The body doesn't lie.

When an experience — an accident, a loss, a conflict, a moment of overwhelm — cannot be fully processed, the nervous system stores it as physical tension. Dr. John Upledger called this an Energy Cyst: a localised area of condensed tension in the tissue where the unprocessed experience remains bound.

This has a cost. The body continuously uses energy to hold these tensions — life force that is missing from your daily life.

The mind often cannot reach these experiences anymore. Either because the memory has faded — or because it actively avoids them. This is not a failure. It is protection.

SomatoEmotional Release does not work through analysis or conversation. It works through body awareness — the only pathway that has direct access to what the mind can no longer grasp.

How it works in practice

In a SER session, I guide you in noticing physical sensations — without judgement, without explanation. Where do you feel warmth, pressure, tightness? Where does something shift?

Through these perceptions, access opens to tension patterns held deep in the tissue. Old reactions, frozen moments, unexpressed emotions — they don't show up as memories, but as physical sensations.

And where they surface, they can release.

This is not a dramatic process. It is often quiet, subtle — and deeply significant. Because it is not the mind deciding what can be let go. It is the body itself.

SomatoEmotional Release 1 & 2 — Upledger Institute Switzerland The complete two-level SER training according to Upledger, covering the full spectrum of body-oriented emotional work: from identifying physical tension patterns to accompanying deep release processes.

Traumatology according to Upledger Specialisation in traumatic experiences and their physical manifestation in tissue and the nervous system. How trauma is stored — and how it can safely release through the body.

Therapeutic Presence & Dialogue The ability to be fully present as a therapist — without steering, without interpreting. To accompany the client's inner process, not direct it. This is the foundation of all SER work.

These qualifications are fully completed — independently of my final exam in the core CranioSacral training.

Meine Erfahrung mit SomatoEmotionalem Release ist nicht nur theoretisch. Ich bringe drei Jahre intensive Ausbildungspraxis mit — inklusive eigener SER-Erfahrung als Klientin. Das ist bei Upledger obligatorisch und aus gutem Grund: Wer diese Arbeit begleitet, muss sie selbst kennen.

Ich weiss wie es sich anfühlt, wenn der Körper etwas loslässt, das der Verstand nie fassen konnte. Diese Erfahrung prägt wie ich arbeite — mit Geduld, ohne Druck, und mit echtem Verständnis für das was im Körper passiert.

For severe trauma or mental health conditions, I strongly recommend working alongside a psychotherapist or psychiatrist. SER can meaningfully complement this support — not replace it.
